FLAG FOOTBALL PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The mission of the RJFA  Flag Football program is to provide a community-based sporting experience that combines the joy of childhood backyard football with a touch of healthy competition.   We aim to create an inclusive environment where children of all skill levels can come together to learn, play, and grow both as athletes and individuals.

Kids will enjoy weekend-only games against other teams within the program, but with a more competitive element as we introduce scoring, record keeping, and referees.

While we want the games to be competitive, it is critical to keep in mind that Flag is a rec sport and designed to get the kids to play football in a fun, supportive, and safe environment.

Here are a few things to keep in mind to keep the season fun and safe:

  • Unsportsmanlike, offensive, or confrontational language is not allowed and won't be tolerated.
  • Coaches, players, parents, and spectators may not physically or verbally abuse any opponent, participant, coach or official.
  • Ball-Carriers MUST make an effort to avoid defenders with an established position.
  • Defenders are not allowed to tackle or run through the ball-carrier when pulling flags.

We expect everyone to fully comply with these guidelines and support this effort. We will be sending out reminders during the season to enforce this message.

SEASON SCHEDULE AND IMPORTANT DATES

Here are the key dates for the season. Please note that the schedule and locations may changed based on the availability of fields, but we don't anticipate making changes unless there is inclement weather. Just like last year, we are going to try to play a one day tournament at the end of October to determine the Super Bowl Champions in each grade. We are working through some field constraints right now. This was a lot of fun for everyone and we want to keep this new tradition going! If there are changes, they will be communicated as the season gets closer:

  • July 22nd  - August 15th:  We will be forming teams, confirming coaches, creating schedules, and more during this time. Coaches will be communicating with teams before the first weekend.

  • August 15th- 23rd:  All coaches will receive their team equipment and uniforms.

  • August 24th/25th:  Meet coach, receive equipment, practice/scrimmage

  • August 31st/Sept 1st (Labor Day Weekend): No games; optional scrimmage/ practice for teams.

  • September 7th/8th: 1st weekend of games.

  • October 21st/22nd: End of the regular season.

  • TBD: Flag Football Playoff Tournament.

  • TBD: Flag Football Playoff Tournament (Rain Date)

WEEKLY SCHEDULE AND TIMES

As stated above, we will do everything we can to keep the schedule consistent with what we planned, but may have to adjust things due to field availability. We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding.

Similar to last year, we are planning on having the 3rd - 8th grade teams will be playing against their own grade on a consistent day (Saturday or Sunday) pending registrations. Here is the anticipated schedule for the various grades:
